Even though the 4 NC schools may be more viable in football

only UNC and maybe NC State move the needle in terms of national interest. Although a case could be made that even UNC and NC State don't move the needle consistently enough to improve the ACC's football image. The reality is that the ACC still has an image problem in football. It went from being known as "FSU and the 8 Dwarfs" to "Clemson and the 13 Dwarfs" and even that may be changing again given that it appears Clemson may be returning back to Earth this season.

Now don't get me wrong, I do think the ACC has several programs that are at least solid in football. Also, I do think ACC may be a better football conference than how most people perceive it. However, a case could be made to justify why the ACC is the #3, #4, or #5 ranked power conference in football. Plus, it doesn't help that the ACC may not have the most passionate fan bases for football compared to the other power conferences.
