I've seen some interesting posts about how much money VT is losing because

(cutting to the chase here) the team is losing. And this certainly is a good justification for firing Fuente, and - doing the math - firing him yesterday. Those posts are compelling. The buyout/waitout thing is seemingly "pound foolish".

I haven't followed along intently - I'm content to sit and wait and see who we get - so forgive me if I missed it...
but has anyone discussed the possibility/potential of some kind of massively merit based contract for the new coach?

Like...VT's bottom line is X, and you get your base plus a % of X? I think such a deal would help to bring in a guy that wants to get the fan base engaged, sell tickets, sell advertising, sell club boxes, etc. It would pretty much alleviate a whole slew of complaints I have seen here on Fuente, and generate excitement for the program. And isn't "excitement for the program" at the top of everyone's list as a fan?

I know there are incentives for bowl games, championships, etc. But I would like to see a guy come in that is so confident that he can invigorate the program that he would be willing to take a smaller base salary, as long as he got a cut of the big pie. If the team wins, everybody wins. It may be impossible to negotiate such a thing, but I surely know I'm dang tired of coaches signing huge deals, then getting rich, come what may. God help VT if we don't get this hire right in the current system...
