Just call it a performance-based incentive/bonus.


I think that is already a "thing" with other some coaches' salaries, so it should be doable. The question is - how much is the next coach willing to bet on himself and give up in guaranteed salary? It will probably require an "up-and-comer" who doesn't have a lot of other big names fighting for him to agree to such a contract. And at this point in my "fandom", that's what I'd prefer. I'm tired of the big money involved in sports, particularly at the collegiate level. I'm perfectly content seeing VT go somewhat cheap on the guaranteed money for its next football staff. That may be a "loser" mentality, but I honestly don't really have an expectation that the next coach's salary is really going to have a significant effect on his (or her?) winning percentage.
