And VT lost the Insight Bowl on a last minute drive by Cal against Bud Foster's defense. Coach Foster also had his challenges with Walt Harris' offense at Pitt, and with Syracuse and Donavan McNabb, among others.

So we're somewhat used to the bend-but-don't break philosophy not working all the time, and we're somewhat used to talented offenses scoring on VT. But compared to what VT has put on the field the past two years, Coach Pry and his new defensive coordinator will certainly be an upgrade. At the very least, he brings the possibility of restoring VT's defense and overall program with his Virginia ties. From your post, it seems like Coach Franklin should have been seriously considering replacing Coach Pry, but he didn't, not even this week with the security of his own new 10-year deal in place. In addition to your info, that also tells us VT fans a little something. He may have some warts (what coach doesn't), but we'll take them as part of the whole package.
