It's rare for sure


happens on D more often. Most commonly when a DB gets an INT and there's no reason to risk fumbling it right back.

On O, maybe when the offense doesn't want to score too quickly or they just want to stop the clock ASAP on a first down late in the half/game. But no, a non-QB just giving himself up to avoid contact doesn't really happen.
