people want to act like this pandemic is a static situation and that any change is a sign that the experts were wrong. The vaccines were effective against preventing infection from the initial strain, the one they were developed for. The delta variant changed that.

So yeah when the vaccines first came out until the delta variant became the dominant strain it was accurate to say the vaccine did a good job of preventing infection. The virus changing to make the vaccine less effective doesn’t make people who initially said that “wrong”. Things changed and our guidance and recommendations have and should change with them. But for some reason some people see that as “flip flopping” or a sign of weakness or ignorance when it’s really the exact opposite.

If I tell you it’s sunny outside but then you look out 6 hours later and it’s raining I wasn’t wrong, the situation and parameters simply changed.
