Question for the board - folks with kids in school or recently graduated

Seeing some dumbass posts locally, taking pictures of the ground at noon today where I live, and saying "This is how/why we close schools for snow" (with no accumulation when the pic was taken). This is stupid, IMHO. These folks, I think, err on the side of caution, and don't want poorly paid bus drivers out and about with a potential of bad road conditions. It's a no cost option to just cancel a day and move on. But a few parents always complain. Are they just pissed because they lose a free day of babysitting? I'm sorry I find it hard to believe they are 'worried about missed education time'.
