It was a big shock for me when I left high school near the NC coast and lived in Boone for a few years. Snow , as you know, is really not that big of a deal...but I recall a terrible ice storm in 92 maybe? Our complex had a two tiered parking lot...some of the spaces were on a slant between the two. I remember sitting on our stoop with my roommate just watching cars parked there, with no intertia other than gravity, start making them slide down to the lower deck and crash into each other.

The coup de gras of the evening was when a Boone PD officer had to come up to our complex. We were at the top of a mild hill, but enough where he couldn't drive up and had to park at the bottom and walk. He busted his ass at least a half dozen times and we were laughing our ass off, but then felt bad and asked him to come in and warm up. He crushed 2 beers and said..."I'm writing this accident shit up and going home"....I miss the mountains :)
