In Roanoke County it can be tricky. You have Bent Mtn and then Catawba on..

Opposite ends of the county. Both high elevations. We could have a coating on the ground near my house and a foot on either mountain. A few years ago if BM had snow and the rest of the country was fine, they excused those kids from school instead of shutting down the entire county. This past snow we were closed until Thursday then virtually yesterday and today.
