Ok, so you lost me, but then I went back.


You're fired up about Houston. Clearly RPI and NET are garbage because they have Houston at #3 and #9!

Here's Houston's ranking in your other 3 non-garbage rating systems:

Sagargin: 5
Massey: 10
Pomeroy: 5

The problem is not computers vs. humans, the problem is that ranking 300+ teams that largely don't play each other is a ridiculously difficult task. Why do you think there are so many ranking systems out there? Because there is no clear "right" way to do it.

I'm not against using computer rankings instead of a committee, but I don't think it would be as magically awesome as you seem to think. Yes, it eliminates the arguments about the committee being biased or having some agenda separate from picking the best teams. All of the other issues and arguments around selection would still be there though.
