The NET is a great ranking system, the committee used it completely wrong


The NET is heavily based on efficiency and predictive metrics but has some elements of the RPI involved to account for actually winning against good teams. Look at VT, very good efficiency metrics because we have a good team, but because we didn’t win we were lower in the NET but not that much lower.

The issue is the committee doesn’t care about the NET, they only care about quad 1 wins which eliminates the usefulness of the NET as a ranking system because the quad spreads are so wide and it over emphasizes where games are played.

If you used NET as the decider you’d generally get it right most of the time and have very few controversies.
