Setting records for viewers always helps.

New York City cares more about college basketball than college football. When it watches college football, it watches Notre Dame and it watches top 5 teams. The ACC can capture interest in itself in NYC for college basketball though. Setting records for viewers always will help.

Stuff like this helps:

"The telecast also set records in Buffalo (6.7 local rating) and New York City (2.8 rating), ranking as ESPN’s highest-rated regular-season men’s college hoops game in both markets (records date back to 2002)."
