This is why Notre Dame needs to join the ACC as a full time member
With all respect to goldendomer, who is one of my favorite posters on this board, it is September 18 and Notre Dame's season is over.
With 2 losses against a good Texas team and a good Michigan State team, any chance to play in the college football playoff is history.
Now if ND were in the ACC, they would have a way in. Let's just say that ND was a member of the ACC Coastal. By the end of the season, the game in South Bend versus the Hokies in late November may be for a spot in the ACC title game. Along the way, ND could rally with some notable wins against Pitt and maybe Louisville or Clemson. They already play Miami and a chance to have the shot at a division title and possibly a conference title could give them some hope.
If they won the Coastal and could beat Clemson or Louisville in the ACC title game, the national media could still make a sufficient argument for a 2-loss ND team with 11 wins to get into the playoff...because they are Notre Dame, winners of the ACC.
Unfortunately, that is not going to happen. ND still has some landmines on their schedule with games against Miami, Stanford, and a VT team that I would not want to play later in the season. It will be even tougher for this team to get up knowing that their season is already over in mid September.
ND, it is time, join the ACC. Independence is great if you are undefeated in this age of the playoff. Perfect is an impossible standard and it is already time to think of 2017 thanks to your independence.
