I wholeheartedly endorse this move

The reason is that it cuts off conference involvement in politics, but there are other reasons.

Let's say, for instance, that Boston College promotes an ACC boycott of South Carolina due to its gun laws. Clemson in turn proposes a ban of Massachusetts due to its extreme taxes - Clemson argues that high taxes negatively affect far more people than gun laws and bathroom laws combined; then FSU doesn't like the fact that a kid has to join a union to work an ACC tourney in Pennsylvania, and we're off

If a conference can argue over a bathroom law that affects a miniscule slice of the population, then we have to expect that they will argue over real issues too. The outrage industry has a toehold in athletics now, and that is a serious growth industry.

In the end, the laws of a state are the reflection of the will of the people. For state schools at least, that receive both state and federal funding, you'd better be willing to accept the will of the hand that feeds you. For a school like UNC to accept state funds with one hand and shake its fist at North Carolinians that help pay its tuition won't work.

The idea that ACC presidents are even in this arena is idiotic. If they can make an argument that holding an event in a particular state is a bad economic decision then I buy that. However, although the bathroom law might have been one of the dumbest laws ever, I can't abide schools like UNC taking a stand against a legislature that helps pay its bills.

It would not surprise me if this proposal is a direct F-you to UNC by the NC legislature. If UNC truly wants to take a moral stand, then be ready to leave the ACC. Unfortunately for UNC, it's stock could go a lot lower if the NCAA ever wakes up...
