That actually was a great read. I don't have a feel for the game but that just explained something to me which I completely believe, our sense of "bigger faster" is a dead end and killing us in soccer and why the rest of the world loves the game, the average sized guy has (maybe the best) chance.
The article ended a little too abruptly as Yahoo and USA Today articles tend to do but reading into the idea of club teams, there's something more than drafting or trading for a good player and you're done, you need the development team to create a more complex identity. It's not a straight shot.
I made a similar crack about youth soccer earlier, it seems it's more there for polishing up college resumes than for playing soccer (something that carries over to a lot of others sports, lacrosse etc. there's something else going on there; contrary to other countries, it is more of an elitist sport here)
But yeah, *click* I understand the game better now.
