Supposedly before electricity everyone on the farm

Was on a split sleep schedule. Went to bed at dark, slept until 11 or 12, got up and did some things or even went and visited friends, and went back to bed about 2 hours later. The biggest thing is not to stay up longer than 2 hours - at that point you are up.
I've fought sleep issues most of my life so I tried it for a while. Hard to get used to and not for everyone. My biggest issue was I could always find something to do and stay up 4 hours and then not fall back asleep. Biggest advice is hit your scheduled times. Good luck if you try anything like that
