Starting to doubt we'll ever have substantial Text & Drive penalties

Too many people do it, too many people enjoy it, too many people ignore the safety & driving issue -- too many people can't imagine their "busy" life without sending texts every 5-10 minutes.

Just don't see the political will to really crack-down on Distracted Driving. It's easy to pass a law that impacts "bad" people, and criminals -- much more difficult to pass laws that impact soccer moms, neighbors, family, Average Joe, politicians themselves, etc.

So we'll have to deal with it for another 5-15 years, and then technology will probably make the issue obsolete. Most cars & phones will have a robust voice-system.
