I've had similar issues with Windows machines

My laptop is often connected to a dock with two monitors. Every now and again a window opened on monitor #2 doesn't shift back to the single laptop screen when I undock. It's just hidden.

The solution has been to use keyboard shortcuts to manually move the window left or right until it comes back on the screen. If Macs have such things you might try doing that
