Let the reviews be your guide
Like others have said, it's hit or miss and don't buy tools looking for high precision. But I disagree that anything with a motor is crap. I bought a rotary hammer for a job because it was less than the price of a rental. It's been going strong for 7 or 8 years. Granted, I don't use it often, but when I do, it gets abused.
Another example of a quality HF tool is the mobile base I just bought for my bandsaw. Rock solid and less than half the price Rikon wants for theirs.
Both of those examples are tools with lots of reviews and >4 stars.
