There is absolutely nothing wrong with being self-taught. I'm in IT and I'm 99% self-taught. Now a lot of young pups are sometime less self-taught but that is more of a generational thing.

The challenge will be how much you want to tweak your career - a little or a lot? If a lot then one Python might not be enough to cut it.

Also, if you want to get into web development - suggest .NET is one to learn.
