My comments....


Cabernet: Va cab is not as bold and full flavored as California. The Va climate is not quite right for strong Cab grapes
Merlot: Lots of good Va merlot. The soil and climate are a god match.
Petit Verdot: Va is prime for growing this grape. While typically a blending grape some Va wineries bottle it stand alone.

Va wineries do a good job with Meritage, essentially the US version of Bordeaux style blends. While some of Va varietals don't stand up as well on their own, they do create some great blends.
