These kind of stories have given me "nonexperiential" PTSD

I don't know if PTSD is the correct term but for example- I had a coworker choke, pass out, and split his skull open on a table while we were at lunch one time. Now whenever I hear someone coughing I have to stop what I'm doing and look around to see if they are okay. Even after that I am in a hypervigilant state and it takes a few minutes to get back to the easy going attitude I am used to.

These stories involving kids, particularly the one where the athlete ran over and killed his own toddler has made me extremely nervous about backing out of my driveway. I have to open the garage door, walk out, close the door, then look all around the truck to make sure one of my kids didn't run out of the door to say "bye", then inch out until I can see the entire front of my house through my windshield. Not something I would have been so careful about before reading that story, and it didn't even happen to me.

PTSD as I understand it is crippling but I think I have a little sense of it, and makes me very sympathetic to people who do suffer from it.
