Last night I was reading another version of the article

and in the comment section 1 person noted that the same dispatcher was commended for being a hero because she helped save a young child's (I think 6 years old) life. The other article also noted that the victim's voice sounded "distant" at times because he wasn't close to his cellphone. It sounded like he may have used Siri (or something like that) to dial 911. At least that could explain the multiple calls. The final interesting piece of information in the article is that his parents used a GPS app to locate him which I thought was odd since I thought all cellphones have the E911 location which can't be turned off. In the comment section 1 person noted that either the GPS information was not relayed to the officer(s) searching for him or the technology is available to the officers while in the field.

I am not trying to defend anyone's actions or suggest that people shouldn't lose their jobs over this tragedy. It does appear though there may be deficiencies, besides the human element, that helped contribute to this tragedy and hopefully will be addressed to prevent other tragedies in the future.
