Maryland would be a pretty accurate comparison.


There are several posters here that think Maryland was a huge loss for the ACC when they left. Connecticut is the same thing just in a different part of the ACC footprint. They are also public, land grant, more basketball inclined, but they play FBS football.

There aren't any national football brands available. We get one if Notre Dame joins in full. But they are already playing 5 games, so I'm not sure 3 more makes much difference other than they become eligible for the ACC Championship Game if they win their division.

UConn would be a regional draw for football until they could beat the teams from the southern end of the ACC like Syracuse did to Clemson and Boston College did to Florida State in 2017. Even then it takes years to build a brand. I'd argue they have a national basketball brand though.
