You're only as good as your head coaches and the AD's commitment.

FSU will always be good. UNC was a disappointment. Duke's future looks bright. Notre Dame got in the NCAA's because of the non-conference schedule while Pitt's weak non-conference schedule hurt them (even though I thought they were a better team than Notre Dame). I assume that Clemson will go all out once they field their team. The ACC hasn't been a good softball conference for some time. It kind of reminds me of ACC football when FSU dominated (before the ACC expanded) every year while the rest of the conference (except for 1 or 2 other teams did okay) was mediocre at best. When Tech has trouble beating Longwood, Radford, and Liberty (all Big South teams), you know something isn't right. Tech isn't the only ACC team facing the same struggles against mid-major programs that they should defeat on a regular basis. Like I said, good coaching is what makes conferences good. Look at the ACC lacrosse and soccer programs for examples.
