More of a country club rather than a street sport here...

And those college players come from wealth and affluence, eg, places like NOVA where soccer is more of a middle/upper class resume for college.

Not saying there aren't some good athletes and talent, but in most sports you probably need to be playing minor league pro sports at 18 exclusively if you want to make a career of it.

I would think soccer would need to replace say, football as the live or die sports for kids.
