If you ever listen to Clark Howard, you know this already, but his advice


on negotiating for a car is to never, ever, ever do it face-to-face.

In a face-to-face negotiation, they have their full arsenal of manipulative tricks to pressure you into a bad decision (note they will call them "sales techniques").

If you negotiate via email, you can keep it completely fact-based and impersonal. Which is much better for you.
