but I think this exemplifies one of the reasons some of the tax law changed. You stated you received untaxed income to cover car expenses, then want to deduct car expenses you do have.

Unless you are an independent contractor and file a business Schedule C why should you get to deduct expenses you've already been paid for?

I really don't mean this to come across snarky, but new code does seem a little simpler - I mean why waste effort counting up pennies, nickles and dimes (then spend money having government "verify" it) when we can just give everyone two quarters. Helps some, hurts some - more efficient for all.
