Put this on the back burner, but here's a fall back plan

If he really wants to attend VT but isn't get accepted out of high school, recommend he attend & kick butt at his local community college. If he gets good grades there, he should have an excellent chance to get into VT. Not only will this give him an even better chance to get into VT, it will cost significantly less.

Kids coming out of high school are a crap-shoot. Kids with associates degrees have significantly less risk to graduate...
