That 7.5% reduction in CO2 production would have an impact


Yes, our energy costs would go up. By how much? Affordably? Etc. hard to say.

Our natural gas would be worth less, but it wouldn't drop below the equivalent value of coal (why would it?). As such, it would replace, not add to, the fuel consumption in India, China, etc. That would mean the 7.5% reduction in CO2 stands from our reduction, and their CO2 emission reduces due to burning natural gas vs coal (some estimates suggest that it's about 50% less CO2 for the same energy) as well as other pollutants. We burn fewer fossil fuels, they replace some amount of coal with natural gas.

How does starting a conversion now slow our ability to develop new technology? It's not like we are spending money on developing this new technology and planning to steal money from it; we're doing very little of either.
