You kind of underscored my point, I think


The time travel stuff *shouldn't* be irrelevant to the mythology of the show. Most of a show's major themes should all tie back. It can be done. Breaking Bad did it. The rebooted Battlestar Galactica did a nice job except the very last scene. Veep was pretty close. Also, if you haven't watched the BBC version of Life on Mars, do yourself a favor and watch it. Might be the best ending to a series ever. And BBC only, NOT the US version.

Lost came out strong with mythology and then set it to the side. And that's where they first went wrong. Then when they came back to the mythology, it was weak sauce, too cliched.
