American coaches don't understand either strategy or tactics.
Youth soccer is atrocious. Coaches, like in other sports, don't teach fundamental physical and mental skills, or do use good exercises, e.g., gates, ladders, but can't translate to the field play. And the officiating is worse. Safety isn't an issue, it would seem, and they cater to bigger, stronger and rougher. Soccer is a physical sport but shoving and hard checking without play on the ball is routinely allowed. As much academies and travel teams raise the bar, Americans still don't train and mature like European snd S. American programs, re: MLS. **holding my nose**
