I was going to say that you may be right that the glass weakens to heat. At least that seems to be the logical assumption to make here.

For the record, I don't know the properties of tempered glass. The only reason I was considering the possibility is that heat might somehow strengthen the bond is it could be a safety feature. If there is a fire inside a car and the people were killed on impact, then it might be safer to keep the fire contained inside to give the fire department more time to arrive to the scene given that their ETA may be different for each accident vs. the glass creating a debris field around the accident and potentially injuring people, who may not be wearing protective clothing, trying to help the person/people inside the vehicle.

Where I got the idea is the image of melting something (i.e. wax, metal, etc.) to fill a hole, crack in the windshield, or to weld 2 pieces of metal together. Once the something has cooled, then it is supposed to create a "strong bond."
