Good grief. Utah has world-class research. It has nothing to do with B1G.


I don't get this whole B1G / AAU "fuss" thing that gets perpetuated on this board. It's the tail wagging the dog. Take AAU membership out of the equation and the exact same decisions almost certainly would have been made by the B1G with regard to who to invite and who not to invite. AAU membership is just icing on the cake for PR purposes. And the AAU certainly doesn't make its membership decisions based on current or potential athletic conference affiliation.

4 schools have joined the B1G in the last 70 years. One was booted from the AAU essentially simultaneously with joining the B1G. It is certain the other B1G member schools were aware that Nebraska's membership in the AAU was under review while the same review was happening with B1G membership. Yet it was invited.

The other three was AAU members DECADES before joining the B1G. All three 3 schools fit the demographic and athletic profile of a B1G school and, most importantly BY FAR, UMd/Rutgers fit the demographic profile desired for the B1G network and were geographic neighbors of Penn State.

Notre Dame is not an AAU member - and likely never will be - yet they would be admitted in a heartbeat if they came calling.
