who seemed to be in the know was wondering why the NFL was doing this at all, the K story had basically worn itself out and doing all this with tryouts basically gave it legs again.

I do have one theory, like when Michael Vick came back I suspect a bunch of teams had to draw straws to see who would take him for the sake of making the NFL look better, if no one took him it would look like he was being shunned. Philly got him for $1M (and then when they realized he was still good upped it to $10M) Same thing perhaps? Get someone to take him to show the NFL's equanimity? (Did I spell that right?)

As they said on the show, why all the drama? The usual course of things is to call up Monday for a tryout on Tuesday, no big deal, why the special tryouts?
