I watched GRANT. Anyone else? Lot of talk about it before it aired.
I've had an interest in the recent unpleasantness since it was told to me as a child that my Great (2) Grandfather fought in it. On Grant's side.
I thought the show gave much insight into the character of the man and the challenges of the times and how they shaped each other. I can understand if you're Southern by birth and raising, there may have been areas in the series you had trouble with. Especially the redundancy. Although my Southern heritage is from southern Michigan, I've spent 80% of my life somewhere in the actual South. By choice.
I think the series did much to dispel the negative aspects of USG, putting into context why and how his reputation evolved so terribly for him. The man was truly between a rock and a hard place his entire life, more so near the end than ever.
This wasn't intended to be a political post. Hope we can leave it that way.
