On the other hand, if you do have shoes with Gore-Tex linings, if you step into water that's higher than the top of the shoe, your feet will remain wet well after you return home. The shoes just won't displace the water...they can't. I'm not sold on Gore-Tex shoes in hot weather either. Your feet will sweat, and the Gore-Tex lining won't remove the water. They are best for non-active wear during wet conditions.
I crossed a creek with my Gore-Tex Asolos where the water was higher than the top of the boot, so I know exactly what I want now...lol (Not this trip, but a couple years ago) I'll take a shoe that gets wet, but evacuates the water quickly.
