They count as three cases because they don't track tests by SSN or patient


They put a label on the sample and mail it to a lab ... and even if you were to get tested at the same office, they could easily use multiple labs. You could also get tested at three different places. But yes, each positive test is counted as a new case. I have spoken to three different medical professionals on this and all confirmed it. Honestly there isn't much else they can so so that is the fault of no one.

However, it should be reported that way and it isn't. Number of positive tests and number of new cases should NOT be the metric we are using for anything. Hospitalizations and deaths should be what drives decision-making IMHO.
