Regarding hospitalizations - honest question

VDH stats for everyone under 50 years old shows a hospitalization rate of around 2%. Based on all reporting thus far and various sources, the actual case rate is at a minimum double(and I'm being conservative) the amount of reported cases. That puts the hospitalization rate at about 1%.

Should we be having these various gathering restrictions, schools shutting down, etc. based on that math?

I 100% agree that it's a different story for those above 50(and really those above 65/70), but if the restrictions can make a difference in church services, sports practices, etc., then I would hope we could tailor restrictions to mitigate the impacts/risks to those with the greatest vulnerability.

I am a religious mask wearer, minimize trips, etc. All the various things we're told to do, but I really have a hard time understanding the leap from 1% hospitalization to all the other negative effects that come from the restrictions. I also recognize and understand that the vaccines are very much close to stabilizing the situation, but there are a lot of families and businesses that are on the brink.
