Certainly today’s loss was disappointing, but it is just one game.

As I was researching the preview, I said to myself , “this is a very good Clemson team.” Candidly I thought we would win two out of three from the Tigers and we still can do so.

We simply missed too many opportunities early today - two hits in the first inning and got nothing out of it. Then, a lead off single in the second inning and we got nothing out of it. Another hit in the third – and nothing.

Then, the bottom of the third arrived. Keely, who had been mowing them down, hits the leadoff batter, gives up a couple of singles and it’s 1-0. But like she always does, she battled back, got the next two out without any more damage and then induced a ground ball that could have gotten us out of the inning. Instead, an errant throw allows two runners to score and then a homerun makes it 5-0.. Essentially, that was the ball game.

Tomorrow is a new day, however and I think we’ll see much more focused Hokie team.

Reportedly, the team had a film study after dinner tonight, so something tells me that Pete will have these ladies ready to roll tomorrow.

On the plus side, 20 VT players saw action today. Mackenzie Osborne pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning and registered her first college strikeout. Two of VT’s pinch hitters today, Morgan Overaitis and Maddie Roundtree delivered base hits.

This is still a very good softball team. Very good.
