I covered the softball team for the collegiate times back in the infancy of

VT softball around 97.
Way different experience than what I see from your picture. I set in bleachers next to the field, and after the game just walked through onto the field to talk with the players. Not much different than a little league field.
I’m pretty sure I was the only “press”, so no press box. I kept stats, because no one else did. I couldn’t ask Hokiesports for hits or strikeout numbers. I remember the coach asking me about some stats once he realized I was keeping them.
Cool thing was the girls seemed excited to talk afterwards, because they knew they might get quoted in the collegiate times.
Fun times.
