VT lacrosse has had a bad string of luck.
Their best player came back from a knee injury. One of the top freshman in the country decided not to come back and play this season. Have to believe missing the latter has impacted the top players effectiveness this season.
Add to this VT plays in the toughest lacrosse conference. Aside from the drubbing against UNC they are not that far off. They need to find a strong draw specialist. Control draws, you control possessions, you usually control the game.
They need better goalie play. Our goalies have not had their strongest seasons. Their play could have been impacted by VTs inability to consistently win draws, especially against top teams. This puts a lot of pressure on the defense and goalies. The best defense in women's lacrosse is to own the draws and control the ball.
The team needs to add some bigger offensive threats. VT just doesn't have that go to person who can change a game like Charlotte North for BC. They need to improve their shooting consistency as well. They did not shoot well in some games.
Lastly, the team had to deal with a major Covid interruption this season. Not easy to bounce back from mid-season.
