HVAC experts, and anyone who slept at a Holiday Inn in the last 30 days...


AC cooling will not kick on. Circulation fan in the house and the condenser fan outside will both run, but no cold air. Air coming off the condenser is not hot, ambient temp. Lines for coolant are not hot/cold and nothing iced up.

Additionally, the outside unit will cycle on/off very quickly about 3-8 times (varies) and then keep running. Does it several times a day if I'm trying to run the cooling. Doesn't do it just running circulation.

My suspicion is the thermostat may be bad, that it's not getting a good signal, which may be also jogging the unit. It's +12 years old, would it be worth my time to try and replace it before I make a service call?

Thoughts? Opinions? Wild ass guesses?
