AC or heat pump?


Pretty basic to test if the thermostat is bad by adding a jumper to bypass the thermostat relay. this will force the AC (or blower, or heat, depending on where you put the jumper) to turn on.

If it's a heat pump, it could be either the on/off relay or the reversing valve relay, so there would be two things to test in that case.

Next easiest thing to check is the start capacitor for the compressor. But it sounds like the compressor is firing up OK, just not getting cold air.

Beyond that, you're likely looking at a leak in the system and all the refrigerant is gone. Gotta call a pro to troubleshoot that one.
