Given that all 10 FBS conferences and Notre Dame "own" the College Football
Playoffs and (I think) the non-profit (aka the College Football Playoffs, Inc.) that run the day-to-day operations, what happens to that business venture if the 3 conferences decide to do that? I mean technically it could still exist with the 6-7 remaining FBS conferences (depending on what happens to the Big XII) and possibly Notre Dame.
Also, the bowls that are involved in both the Playoffs and NYD6 bowl games have a contract with College Football Playoffs, Inc. which may expire at the same time the current playoff contract is set to expire. If the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12, and the Rose Bowl decide they want to do their own thing, then I am sure the College Football Playoffs, Inc. could easily find another bowl game (i.e. Citrus Bowl, Gator Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Holiday Bowl, etc.) to easily take the Rose Bowl's place.
If all of this goes down, then it would similar to what existed during the brief BCA Era, which was in between the the Polls Championship Era and the BCS Era. Now the ACC may be in the more precarious position since its champion could find itself playing in a lower tier bowl game because the Big Ten champion and Pac-12 champion are playing against each other in Rose Bowl which is exactly what happened during the brief BCA Era.
