I don't disagree that the current environment favors the SEC
and that the ACC needs to do something bold to try to fix it. I am just not sure being the potential third wheel is necessarily the "right decision" for the ACC to make at this juncture. If you remember the BCA Era was short lived because the Big Ten, Pac-10, and Rose Bowl realized that they were only hurting themselves while they insisted on doing their own thing.
If it were to go down, then history may end up repeating itself. The Big Ten, Pac-10, and Rose Bowl may be okay with whatever the consequences come from forming the Alliance. However, the ACC could easily find itself in worse position if/when it comes to the conclusion that the grass isn't greener with the Alliance and tries to rejoin the College Football Playoffs/NYD6 bowls. It is why I think the Alliance probably needs at least 4 conferences to have any chance for success.
