and certainly some truth in there. As far as football goes, they were always going to have the two year transition and not real sure, since there is not a conference tourney or auto berth associated with winning the conference, how that might impact their seeding and trickle down to their ability to actually be the host school in the FCS football playoffs.
However, just like I said to @Stech earlier, decisions have consequences. I believe if the JMU execs, particularly the athletic execs, were doing their job all this information would have been included in materials and presentations to the JMU BOV prior to the decisions being made. It is cliche, albeit sometimes true, you have to endure short term pain/sacrifice for long term gain. Personally, as dicey as the collegiate athletic landscape is at present, I think properly evaluating the potential long term gains is probably even more unclear than under previous historical circumstances. JMU, at least in football, has been a fairly significant fish in a smaller pond for quite a while now and their future positioning is certainly going to be different. Others will eventually decide whether the decision was correct.
