Because he had a good press conference and loves VT? Thousands of people could do that and they wouldnt be good coordinator candidates. Price was selected primarily because he wont be distracted by the coaching search while we wrap the season.

If you want Price more involved, hope JHam or the next D Coordinator retains him as DL coach.
