Question regarding TV Contract/Expansion/Renegotiation
Hoping someone could help out and offer insight.
I'm thinking the last time the ACC expanded we renegotiated the TV contract because we added 2 more teams...If I'm not mistaken, that was what allowed us to do it.
If still true...the ACC holds all the chips to do it again. If the 45m is accurate...that's a pretty significant amount of money to start a conversation in fear of not get anything in return. If I'm the ACC, I use that to get ESPN in my corner and push ND and UCONN to come all in. Let them negotiate with ND/NBC and make it a win/win. UCONN is a given.
I see some people suggest NAVY, but really? I don't see it. Give me UCONN for BB and let FB be what it is. Bringing in UCONN for BB would make the ACC almost ridiculous. The additional payouts for the tournament would more than make up what they don't bring in FB.
I looked at some population figures...and if you add up the states in the ACC footprint (ND and UCONN included) it's 100m. Next closest is SEC with 95m, but 26m of that is TX. Big 10 comes in at 85m. If you throw in states that the ACC would "touch"...175 MILLION. That's a LOT of people...more than half the US population.
What do you think we could get from that scenario opposed to what we have?? I would think A LOT.
