This is good for the ACC, not bad...
we have a look-in to our ESPN contract next summer. The whole point of the look-in is to reevaluate the marketplace for our content to determine if adjustments/new negotiations are warranted. The B1G is establishing new benchmarks in the market which will be favorable in our contract discussions with ESPN next year. Did we take less money than we could have 4 years ago? yeah, almost certainly. But what we did was increase a 2 year old deal significantly and pushed our next negotiation with ESPN out to the year AFTER the B1G reset the market benchmarks (2017). We likely took a little less in exchange for the 5 year look-in (conveniently placed within 12 months of the B1G contract window expiring). The ACC should come out of all of this by 2018 on par with the B1G and SEC in terms of overall media revenue for conference members. we might be 3rd still, but we will be grouped closely with the top 2 for sure.
